My name is Lindsay and here is my story so far.
(shade I wanted to say)The property buying process in North Cyprus was explained to us in detail and all our options were discussed, one of the options apart from buying an Apartment or Villa was to buy a plot of land and have a property built so we decided to look at some plots of land. The following day we went out with a negotiator from Estate Agents Donaghy and Beyler who showed us various plots of land in different locations around the Kyrenia area, Lapta, Karsiyaka etc, we took her advice as we were clueless and eventually decided on the first plot we had seen as there were utilities nearby. We paid our deposit went down to Kyrenia harbour got drunk and rang our parents for a loan. Over the next few months the villa plans were drawn up and building started. Back in the UK on a wet and cold Sunday afternoon after I had finished the increasing taxi runs for my two sons and cooked a Sunday dinner (which nobody turned up to eat) I sat and thought what am I doing here, so we made a decision that we were going to move to the TRNC. We told the boys, “what you are abandoning us” they said (and were quite serious) bearing in mind they were 25 and 22 years old, “absolutely” I said. We put the house on the market and it sold quickly so we gave the boys a couple of grand each (guilt money) October 2005, the big move and we brought my parents over with us for a weeks holiday (a good plan of mine so we would not have tearful goodbyes) They were very impressed when they arrived in Cyprus as there were supermarkets and you could buy things like tomato ketchup ( I don’t know where they thought we were bringing them to) I must confess my mum did sneak some butter and Greggs teacakes in her suitcase, just in case. We had to eat in the same restaurant every evening as my dad liked the steak sandwich and chips, he did not want any foreign muck with garlic in. In May 2006 youngest son arrived for a holiday with his girlfriend who was also very impressed with the place, not with the supermarkets but the hotel casinos. They spent a morning looking at some apartments in Kyrenia and his girlfriend suggested they should buy one together, of course that did not happen and she is now his ex. July 2006 crisis, eldest son split up with his girlfriend distraught he needed to get away but had no money, duly paid for his flight to Ercan. On his first day here I needed to go out with my boss for a few hours and told him I would be home by lunch, I got a call from him asking if I could pick him up from the casino as he had run out of money it was 11 AM. I had to confiscate his wallet and give him money every day, he was 25 years old. I told him to go to gamblers anonymous when he got home. Oct 2006 youngest son blagged a freebie by escorting my parents here for a holiday, we ate in the same restaurant again, all week. My dad decided to have a float in the pool, he later blamed this for needing a new hip, he’s 76 June 2007 youngest son re-appears with his mate for another Cyprus holiday and hired a Merc to go cruising, after 3 days it was obviously not having the desired effect so they got a taxi to Aiya Nappa. Oct 2007 returned to UK for a week when my dad had a new hip, took him food every day as he was not eating that hospital muck. He could not wait to get home he said it was like waiting for God with all the old men in his ward at 76 I think he was the eldest. New Year ’s Day 2008 eldest son rings to say him and a mate would like to come out to North Cyprus in May and would like to stay if they can find work. MY HEART SANK
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Sept 2002 I came on holiday to North Cyprus with my partner, my sister and her husband. On the third day of our holiday we decided to visit some Estate Agents in the Kyrenia area as it was hot to sunbathe, I don’t think we looked very affluent as the first two Estate Agents ignored us. Then we stopped at the Girne branch of Estate Agents Donaghy and Beyler and all trooped in, here we were offered drinks and then bananas (by Hayat) we were then sat down and asked what type of property we were looking for, all four of us looked blank
